Thought I would put a wee photo of my current Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron desktop online before I upgrade, I planning to upgrade after I’ve purchased a larger hard drive early next year.
Actually thats dependent on if I have some cash left after Christmas, so it’s maybe 🙂
Ubuntu 8.04 desktop with Windows XP running under Suns Virtualbox
This is a reminder to myself on how to install guest additions for Ubuntu 9.10 as a guest when using Sun VirtualBox. I’m currently using Sun Virtual Box 3, feel free to use it as is.
Update and upgrade the distribution.
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
Install the linux headers to and build essentials to enable you to compile
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-generic
sudo apt-get install build-essential
Now look up at the top left of the VirtualBox window and click devices then click install guest additions.
You’ll notice that a CD icon will appear on your desktop called VBOXADDITION_3 (I’m currently running version 3 of VBOX, yours may be different.)
Use the command prompt you opened earlier
Exit the terminal unmount the CD and reboot your Ubuntu Guest OS. At this point I usually shutdown and take a snapshot but thats entirely up to yourself.
Last night I went to see Motorhead at the o2 Academy, brilliant stuff. They were supported by The Damned who are always good and Girlschool. Unfortunately we missed Girlschool because it took so long to get there, the rain was just throwing it down last night. Anyway, here a couple of video clips of the event.
