Edinburgh Marathon 2009

I ran the Albert Bartlett Edinburgh Marthon this year and I got to say, I really quite enjoyed it. The weather was fabulous on the day, although not perfect for getting a personal best. Some of the guys running a little slower than me had problems with running out of water. Seemingly there was a theft from one of the waterstops, why anyone would want to steel water I have no idea. Mine and my friend Chris’s position and time are below.

Position Name Time

Chris Hoy Half Marathon 2008

Today myself and my mate Mark ran the Chris Hoy Edinburgh Half Marthon, the weather was surprisingly good, sunny with a little breeze. I actually managed to get a personal best. So I’m well chuffed, looks like things are looking good for the Albert Bartlett Edinburgh Marathon this year. The only bad thing is that I think I’m coming down with a cold (felt a bit snotty this morning), so tonight I’m going to dose myself with Vitamin C and have an early night, fingers crossed.

A nice sunny Sunday run :)

Moving House

I’m  currently living in a rented flat in Edinburgh after selling my flat in Edinburgh and on 3rd of October I’m going to be moving out of Edinburgh totally. I’m then going to be a resident of Peebles :) another £20,000 gets you 2 more bedrooms and a large garden, much better value for money IMHO.

Although, having managed to live without a car since I passed my driving test 15 years ago. I’m going to have to buy a car now, seeing if I can get a job nearer home might be the answer.

Below is a small map of my new home town.

Edinburgh Marathon 2008

I decide to run for a local charity this year, the one I chose was Circle, a local Scottish based charity that help young children and families, I managed to raise over £400 which I’m really happy with. Big thanks to everyone that sponsored me, my sponsor page is still open and will be for a couple of weeks so if you have a couple of pounds burning in your pocket then feel free to donate to a worthy cause here.

Circle was formerly part of the UK wide organisation FSU which had been providing services in Scotland since 1974 for some of the most vulnerable children and families. Circle currently works across Edinburgh, West Lothian, North and South Lanarkshire

This will be my 3rd Edinburgh Marathon and I’ve got to say, I really quite enjoyed it. The atmosphere on the day was brilliant. Although the weather was a little overcast in the morning, after the first couple of hours it  improved considerably.

The only thing that was a bit annoying was the wind which blew from mile 6 to 18 and hampered my speed a bit. Saying that, I don’t suppose I can complain too much this is Scotland after all!

Linux Certification (Redhat or Linux Professional Institute)

m currently looking at some sort of linux certification, either  RHCE Red Hat Certified Engineer or Linux Professional Institute. I’m more inclined to go for the RHCE after asking some of the guys on the Edinburgh LUG users group.

I’m currently in the process of costing it, books, exams  costs. I’ll update this post as and when I have the information.

Edinburgh Marathon Training

Having taken a week off, I’m champing at the bit to start training for the Edinburgh Marathon. I might do a little light jogging this week to see how my legs have recovering, nothing to strenuous. Then start training in earnest on the week beginning the 14th April, I’m going to adapt the marathon training I did for the Paris Marathon, basically just chop the 5 weeks off the end of it and use that. I think my endurance training should still be quite valid after only 2 weeks of rest (hopefully) what I’m going to concentrate on doing some speed work during the week followed by the usual long run at the weekend.

Fingers crossed all goes well :) my training schedule is here.
